About Us

Growing up, Katy (Loy) Nightwine had always heard stories about her family's restaurants.  From a young age, she knew that at some point in her life she would follow in their footsteps.  From the 1950-70's, her family owned several Ann Arbor eateries such as Pizza Loy's and Dairy Joy, Loy's Speedy Lunch, Double D, and Loy's Snappy Service.  While she didn't feel the full service restaurant business was what she wanted, Katy certainly found her niche with pastries.  

 

She was a professional golfer for 8 years before she was a Pastry Chef.  She played professionally, taught private lessons and coached a local high school team,  But it was during her offtime that she felt at home in the kitchen baking.  After being told for many years that she should open a bakery....she followed those suggestions and her HEART and opened this small little shop on Packard.

 

Before opening her shop she attended and graduated from The French Pastry School in Chicago Illinois.  It was there that she gained the knowledge necessary to bring this wide array of european style breakfast pastries to Downtown Ann Arbor.  

 

 

Pastries and Pasties???

We aren't just spelling pastries without a "R" we make pasties too!  What is a pasty?  Well we like to call it deliciousness in a pocket!!!  

 

pasty [pas-tee] noun, plural pas-ties.  A pie filled with game, fish, or the like

 

Originating across the big pond in England, it was brought over to the miners in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan.  The traditional beef pasty is made of a savory pastry dough filled with beef, potatoes, and rutabaga.  Other igredients and the way it is served is up for discussion(sometimes argument).  We have created our own mix based on many recipes we have tested and believe that our pasty is a perfect combination of the English and Upper Pennisula recipes.  So we call it our own, it isn't an English Pasty and it isn't an UP Pasty, it is a Pastry Peddler Pasty!   And we go a couple steps further by offering several different varieties for your pasty consumption.  Our most popular pasty is our Breakfast Pasty (eggs, sausage, bacon, chorizo, cheese, potato, peppers, onion, seasoning).  Other pasties (subject to availability) include -Chicken, Vegetable, Spinach Artichoke Potato, and the Chef's Special.
